Equality Objectives
As a Church school, we welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010. The general duties are to:
- eliminate discrimination
- advance equality of opportunity
- foster good relations
We understand the principal of the act and the work needed to ensure that those with protected characteristics are not discriminated against and are given equality of opportunity.
Our ethos is based on the principle that God loves each of us as an individual and therefore we should love ourselves and others. This is reflected in our policies and practice.
Equalities Objectives
We are currently working on further developing knowledge and understanding of some of the protected characteristics in order to address any bullying that may arise in relation to these. This is being achieved through:
- Staff attendance on tackling homophobic, bi-phobic and transphobic bullying
- Displaying posters around the school promoting different type of families
- Ensuring school displays celebrate difference and diversity e.g. racism and equality display
- Work included in Anti-bullying theme of Choose Respect – transgender issues included in parents’ anti-bullying trail
- Whole school assembly based on Choose Respect
- 'We Are Hope' topic curriculum work about diversity in the community, and equality and acceptance
- To aim for equality of opportunity and to foster good relationships in engaging parents and carers, tackling discrimination and narrowing gaps of achievement where they exist
- To encourage community cohesion through a growing understanding of differences and similarities within a climate where respect is promoted and discrimination is not tolerated
- To promote strong relationships especially with 'hard to reach' families and seek to understand the barriers to good behaviour and attendance
